Practical Information - "A Manorial World"

Encounter logo m_Europakort.jpg

Dates: September 21.-23. 2017.

Thursday & Friday are conference days, and Saturday is an excursion day to Danish country houses.

Conference fee: Euro 195,- or DKK 1450,-

Including catering during the conference, conference dinner and excursion Saturday.

Evening meals Friday are not included

Accomodation:  Gammel Estrup (like most country houses) is located beautifully in the countryside, but unfortunately at a distance from hotels. Conference accommodation will therefore be in Randers, some 25 km distant. The Danish Research Centre for Manorial Studies will arrange for a bus shuttle to Gammel Estrup mornings and evenings.

For hotels in Randers, we recommend:

Hotel Randers. We have made prebookings at Hotel Randers for conference guests. Prices range from DKK 940,- for single room pr. night (and 1140,- for 2 persons in a double room pr. night). If you make bookings at Hotel Randers, please mark the booking 'Conference, Gammel Estrup'. Pick-up with the shuttle bus will be from Hotel Randers, but it's a short walking distance, if you wish to find other options.

Other options include BestWestern Plus Hotel Kronjylland or the small Stephansens Hotel - good quality and possibly slightly cheaper. Budget accommodation is available at Motel X (outside of Randers) with single rooms at around Dkr. 500,- and doubles at around 700,- for 2 persons (these are very much budget/student accommodation) - or you may try AirBnB for Randers.

Transportation: transport to Randers (since accommodation is there) is reached by airplane to either Aarhus Airport or Billund Airport, and then a bus to Randers (app. one hour).

Be aware that the conference begins at 9. a.m. on September 21st.

Submissions or questions regarding the conference may be addressed to The Danish Research Centre for Manorial Studies, Gammel Estrup - The Manor Museum, Denmark:
